Recurrent Made Easy – Systems Practice Test

Session length

When does CP1 swap to CP2?

3 minutes after touchdown

The idea being tested is the fixed timing of handing control from one processor to the next after a touchdown. In this setup, you don’t switch immediately or wait too long; you wait a short, defined interval so the system can settle and post-landing checks can run without interference.

Three minutes after touchdown is chosen because it provides enough time for any transient signals from contact to fade, data to be safely flushed, and initial post-landing status checks to complete. This makes the handover smoother and reduces the risk of glitches during the transition.

Swapping exactly at touchdown would be too abrupt and could introduce instability. Waiting only one minute is often still too early for all systems to settle, while waiting five minutes unnecessarily delays the handover and wastes time.
